The territory of the United Kingdom include: Britain, the largest island of Europe, formed by England, Wales and Scotland historical-geographical regions with well-defined ethnic and cultural traits.
Northern Ireland, consists of the north-eastern section the island of Ireland and correspondent of most of the historical region dell'Ulsters. The British Isles emerge from the European continental shelf and are separated from the French Channel coast of the English Channel that shrinks to a trenita of kilometres of coast between Dover and Calais. From north to south the territory extends for a maximum of 960 km and a width not more than 480 km. England occupies the central part of Britain, while Wales is a large peninsula on the western side between the Bristol Channel and Irish Sea.
Scotland occupies the northern section and has mainly mountainous.
Northern Ireland closer to Scotland, from which it is separated from the North Channel, looks hilly with low mountains.
